Research and Development Overview

The Intel Research and Development group is reinventing the digital world every day. In everything we do, we are looking for those breakthrough product experiences. And then we look for ways do it smaller, and faster and better. Our discoveries make new things possible in PCs, TVs, cars, handhelds—virtually anywhere computing capabilities are in demand. This is where you can make a difference.

What You'll Do

From creating a single-chip cloud computer and exploring disruptive technologies to looking for ways to make systems architecture more energy–and packaging–efficient, our R&D professionals are always being challenged. As part of the Intel R&D team, you'll explore how our customers interact with technology, what they love about it, and how to make off-the-wall ideas usable reality. Whether you're applying new materials, emerging technologies or customer insights, your innovations will be what transforms the computing capabilities of tomorrow.

What We Make Possible

Single-Chip Cloud Computer (SCC)
Intel Labs has created an experimental SCC containing the most Intel Architecture cores ever integrated on a silicon CPU chip — 48 cores!

Avalanche Photodetector
Intel has collaborated with industry, academic, and government partners to develop a silicon-based avalanche photodetector (APD).

Packaging Technologies
Intel researchers are advancing a multi-chip "system in package" (SIP) technique to address demand for thinner, lighter and feature packed mobile devices.

What You'll Bring

Successful research and design engineers at Intel typically have bachelors or advanced degrees in chemical, computer science, electrical or mechanical engineering, chemistry, material science, or physics.

We look for individuals with strong software and CAD development skills that have demonstrated innovation in the fields of optics, lithography, device physics, novel materials, plasma physics, thermo-mechanics, computational geometry, layout optimization, process technology and device modeling.

We also value experience with multi-threading and parallel processing, design synthesis, high-level functional models, and product validation and test. And excellent knowledge of semiconductor process technology and wafer fabrication, devising and conducting experiments, and defining roadmaps for new technology processes.

A Job Like Mine

Process Technology Development Engineer
Chandler, AZ, USA

"I love solving puzzles and proving those who say 'that can’t be done' are wrong. At Intel the problems I work on don't have clear solutions. So it's easy for me to get up each morning and come to work because I'm motivated to find a solution and demonstrate to others that 'this can be done'."

Operations Research Engineer
Chandler, AZ, USA

"Being around the brightest people making mind boggling products and with everyone so friendly in and outside of work is just amazing. My group goes to lunch together frequently, and a strong college grad group meets for happy hours, camping, intramural sports; you name it! A truly unique culture that makes Intel a great place to work."
