Cloud Day Talk: Massachusetts Open Cloud

On Cloud Day, Boston University's Orran Krieger, Director Cloud Computing Initiative, talked about open cloud computing and a new endeavor in Massachusetts. The Massachusetts Open Cloud (MOC) is a new non-profit, multi-provider cloud being created in Massachusetts through a collaboration between the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, five large research universities, and an array of private sector, including Intel. The MOC is based on an “Open Cloud eXchange” (OCX) marketplace model that provides an open and customizable approach to the design and operation of cloud computing. The MOC will enable multiple entities to provide (rather than just consume) computing resources and services on a level playing field. The MOC is funded by a $3M Commonwealth of Massachusetts MassTech Collaborative Matching Grant Award, and with more than $16M of matching grants from key industry participants.
